New IL CLE Requirement: Diversity & Inclusion + Mental Health & Substance Abuse

Illinois attorneys now have a new IL MCLE requirement. Please note that the Professional Responsibility requirement has been modified. All Illinois attorneys are now required to complete a minimum of 1 hour of Diversity & Inclusion and 1 hour of Mental Health and Substance Abuse.

New Professional Responsibility Requirement

  • 1 hour of Diversity & Inclusion
  • 1 hour of Mental Health and Substance Abuse

This Illinois MCLE rule change does not affect the total number of hours required to fulfill the Professional Responsibility requirement, which remains at 6. These two new hours are considered count towards your Professional Responsibility requirement. The total number of MCLE credits required in each 2 year compliance period also remains at 30.

NY CLE: New York CLE Compliance Groups

New York attorneys that have been licensed for more than 2 years (experienced attorneys) must complete 24 NY CLE hours each 2 year compliance period. In addition, you must now complete at least 4 hours of legal ethics and 1 hour of diversity & inclusion. New York attorneys report CLE compliance when you file their attorney registration card which is sent in your birth month.

New York CLE Compliance Groups

  • Report in EVEN numbered years
    • Admitted BEFORE 1/1/82
    • Admitted in EVEN numbered year
  • Report in ODD numbered years
    • Admitted in an odd numbered year AFTER 1982

Attorneys admitted to the New York Bar before January 1, 1982 – or in an even-numbered year – you must register and report compliance this year since 2018 is an even year. TX CLE: REPORTING TEXAS CLE COURSES

Texas attorneys must complete at least 15 hours of CLE during each TX MCLE compliance year. The Texas CLE compliance year is a one-year period. That period starts on the first day of the month you were born — and the compliance year ends one year later on the last day of the month that precedes the month you were born.

Texas CLE Reporting

Attorney Credits reports your completed Texas CLE courses every Monday. However, since Texas is still technically a self-reporting state it’s still the attorney’s obligation to make sure the CLE credit was received by the State Bar of Texas.

As an Accredited Sponsor of CLE in Texas, Attorney Credits does report your all your completed Texas CLE courses to the State Bar of Texas. We send lists of completed courses to the State Bar of Texas every Monday. Because Texas attorneys are ultimately responsible for reporting completion of their continuing education requirement to the State Bar of Texas, you must verify the receipt of your completed courses by the State Bar of Texas.
