Florida MCLE: CLER Reporting Affidavit

Florida attorneys must complete 30 CLE credit hours every three years to fulfill their CLER (Continuing Legal Education Requirement).  Each three year compliance period Florida attorneys must also complete at least 5 credit hours in the area of ethics, professionalism, substance abuse, or mental illness awareness.  Each member of the Florida Bar is assigned a three year reporting cycle.  You can find your reporting date on the mailing label of The Florida Bar News or by contacting The Florida Bar.

If you have not completed your CLER three months before the end of your reporting cycle, you will receive a CLER Reporting Affidavit from The Florida Bar.  You must update and correct the Florida CLER Reporting Affidavit, complete any CLE hours that you are lacking, and sign and return the affidavit by your reporting date.  There are detailed instructions on the reverse side of the form.  If you have not yet completed your hours 45 days prior to the end of your reporting cycle, you will receive a courtesy reminder from The Florida Bar.

Members of the Bar are subject to a Continuing Legal Education Requirement (CLER). Each member is assigned a reporting date and required to attend 30 hours of approved CLE every three years. New lawyers are assisted in the transition from law school to law practice through the Basic Skills Course Requirement (BSCR) classes.[1]

Timely MCLE compliance is essential in Florida.  If you are late returning the CLER reporting affidavit or you are otherwise late reporting MCLE compliance, you run the risk of being deemed a delinquent bar member.  This may make it difficult to do your job because if you are deemed delinquent you will be prohibited from engaging in the practice of  law in Florida.

Florida attorneys can now post CLE credit hours online.  You can report online on The Florida Bar website by clicking here.  In order to report MCLE compliance online, you will need the course number from the Certificate of Completion issued by Attorney Credits after you complete the course.
