Arizona MCLE: Complete 15 AZ CLE Hours by JUNE 30

Time is running out for Arizona attorneys! Arizona attorneys need to complete the required 15 AZ CLE hours by June 30. Arizona attorneys must also complete 3 ethics hours each annual compliance period.

Arizona attorneys have annual CLE requirements as part of the mandatory Arizona MCLE requirement. During the compliance period, each Arizona lawyer must complete a total of 15 credit hours of Arizona CLE, including at least 3 credit hours of professional responsibility or legal ethics. The annual AZ CLE compliance period for Arizona attorneys runs from July 1 to the following June 30.

Arizona attorneys must complete at least fifteen (15) AZ MCLE credit hours annually, including 3 credit hours of legal ethics. The annual Arizona MCLE compliance period begins on July 1 and ends on June 30th. The CLE reporting deadline in Arizona is September 15.[1]

Please note that the State Bar of Arizona does not certify CLE courses or CLE providers. Arizona CLE: June 30 MCLE Deadline

Like most attorneys around the country, attorneys admitted to the State Bar of Arizona have annual CLE requirements that include reporting AZ MCLE compliance. For Arizona attorneys, the educational cycle runs from July 1 to the following June 30. Unless exempted, a total of 15 hours of CLE must be completed by June, including a minimum of three hours of professional responsibility.[1]

Required Arizona CLE Hours

A total of 15 credit hours, including 3 credit hours if Professional Responsibility.  The 15 mandatory AZ CLE credit hours must be completed by June 30.

In addition, Arizona attorneys have annual MCLE reporting requirements. In order to properly report MCLE compliance, Arizona lawyers must submit proof of AZ MCLE compliance each year on a form provided by the State Bar of Arizona. This affidavit must be filed by September 15 of each year unless a valid exemption applies. Online filing is available beginning in mid-July through the State Bar of Arizona website.[2]

AZ CLE Course Approval

The State Bar of Arizona does not certify CLE courses or CLE providers. Arizona Attorneys are required to independently review the Arizona MCLE Regulations and make their own determination that it will qualify for CLE credit towards their MCLE requirements. MCLE Regulation 104(A) identifies the standards to apply when making this determination – interactivity is a key factor for online CLE courses.[3]

As part of this 15 credit AZ CLE requirement, Arizona attorneys must make sure to complete at least 3 credit hours of Professional Responsibility.

One bright spot for Arizona attorneys – all 15 required Arizona CLE credit hours may be completed by taking online and downloadable CLE course. In order to fulfill the Arizona Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) requirement, attorneys that are licensed to practice law in Arizona must complete 15 AZ CLE credit hours each annual compliance period.  As part of this annual 15 credit hour AZ CLE requirement, Arizona attorneys must also complete 3 credit hours of Professional Responsibility credit.[1]
